Student Staff Vacancy - (Costcutter) - Retail Assistant

Casual - Part Time - This position is only available to registered students of Swansea University Students' Union

Hourly Rate - Relevant National Living/Minimum Wage (dependent on age)

We are a registered charity and the principle voice of students studying at Swansea University. Through our charitable and commercial activities, we provide valuable support to our membership and enhance their time at University.

This is a great opportunity to join our team at work at our Costcutter store at Singleton Campus

Based on a flexible zero hours contract we are looking for enthusiastic staff to work with us across our retail services.  You will need to be hard working and committed to providing outstanding customer service.  

Job Summary:

We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Retail Assistant to join our team. You will be responsible for assisting customers, maintaining store appearance, and ensuring smooth day-to-day retail operations.

Key Responsibilities:

· Greet and assist customers in a professional and courteous manner

· Provide product information, recommendations, and support to customers

· Operate till systems and handle transactions accurately

· Restock shelves and maintain merchandise displays

· Monitor inventory levels and notify management of low-stock items

· Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the store

· Process deliveries and unpack new stock

· Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and returns efficiently

· Follow all store policies, procedures, and health & safety guidelines

· Assist with promotional events and in-store marketing as needed

Key Skills & Qualifications:

· Previous retail or customer service experience preferred (not always required)

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to work as part of a team and independently

· Basic math and cash-handling skills

· Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift light to moderate loads

· Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays

Working Conditions:

· Fast-paced retail environment

· Shifts may vary, including evenings and weekends

· May involve standing for long periods and lifting stock
